Late run leads Redhounds past McCreary

STEARNS — Runs were at a premium Monday as the Corbin Redhounds got past McCreary Central, 2-1, thanks to a run in the sixth inning.

The Redhounds got a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Kevin Goins in the sixth inning, scoring Andrew Jones from third to put the visiting team on top, 2-1.

As if that wasn’t enough, Goins came on in relief after giving his team the lead, eventually earning the save after working his way out of trouble in the sixth and retiring the Raiders in order in the seventh.

“Both of our guys pitched very well tonight and once again, we played great defense” Corbin coach Rob Ledington said. “We didn’t hit the ball very well and we’re still struggling with timely hitting.

“We’ll have a tough test tomorrow against Pulaski County, who is playing very well right now,” he added.

Corbin will travel to Pulaski County today to face the Maroons at 5:30 p.m.
