Williamsburg, Lynn Camp turn in solid efforts at regional meet

WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg High School boys and girls track team turned in stellar efforts during Saturday’s Region 6, Class A track meet at the University of the Cumberlands.

The Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets finished second and third, respectively, with 93 points for the boys and a final tally of 92 points on the girls side. Lynn Camp came in seventh in the boys competition, while they were eighth in the girls.

Williamsburg picked up a combined five first place finishes and three second, while Lynn Camp earned two second place finishes.

In the final girls’ standings it was Somerset (145 points) coming out on top, while Model (144) came in second, followed by Williamsburg (92), Berea Community (55), Oneida Baptist (40), Harlan Independent (39), Pineville (16), Lynn Camp (7) and Red Bird (4).

Somerset also grabbed top honors in the boys competition with 180 points, while Williamsburg’s 93 was good enough for second. Oneida Baptist (55) was third, followed by Berea Community (53), Pineville (51), Model (49), Lynn Camp (30), Harlan Independent (20) and Red Bird (6).

Girls (Top 5 finishers only)

Williamsburg grabbed second in the 4X800 relay thanks to a time of 13:09 by the team of Hannah Reynolds, Christa Smith, Kailee Jarboe and Brittney Hurst. The team of Sarah Perkins, Makayla Mack, Kaylee Akins and Haley Harris were first in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:56.22. Natalie Croley was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.83, while Jarboe was fifth with a 20.77. Akins was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.42

Keeping with the team accolades, Perkins, Jarboe and Croley teamed with Chelsea Lawson to pick up third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 57.62.

Williamsburg’s Perkins was tops in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.23, while Audrey Ash was third in the long jump with a jump of 14-04.75. Ash also finished fourth in the triple jump with jump of 30-11. Makayla Mack closed out Williamsburg’s top five finishes with a vault of 7-00 in the pole vault.

Lynn Camp’s Jessica May was the lone top five finisher for the Lady Wildcats, grabbing fifth in the shot put with a distance of 59-10.

Boys (Top 5 finishers only)

Williamsburg names seemed to be everywhere in the final boys’ tallies. Garrett Faulkner was first in the 1600 with a 4:56.59, and the 3200 with a 10:57.74.

The Yellow Jackets’ team of Eric Poore, Chase Bowman, Andrew Mahan and Dalton Shackleford were third in the 4x100 with a time of 50.75. Shackleford also grabbed third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.87.

Faulkner and Addison Anderson took home first and fourth in the 800 run with times of 2:08.17 and 2:16.3, respectively.

Ryan Caddell turned in a third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 37.04.5, while Brentley Patrick’s jump of 28-01.5 was good enough for fourth in the triple jump and Eric Poore’s 5-04 was third in the high jump.

Shackleford finished fourth in the pole vault with a finals high vault of 7-06.

Lynn Camp’s Tommy Hatfield grabbed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.51, while the team of Hatfield, Aaron Mills, Keanu Nolen and Tyler Reynolds were second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:41.69, and the 4x100 with a time of 48.79. Nolen also turned in a third place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.10.
