Corbin gets back on track

CORBIN — It wasn’t pretty, but it was a district win.

Despite committing nine errors, Chris Hart’s Corbin Lady Redhounds used a nine-run first inning to pull away from the Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets, while winning, 14-4.

“We hit the ball well and that was good after we struggled some during the Clay County game,” Hart said. “We just made too many errors. I thought our pitching held up well, but we just need to cut down on the errors.”

The Lady Redhounds pounded out 16 hits in the win and were led by Lindsey Barton’s 3-for-4, three RBI effort at the plate.

Corbin added two more runs in the second and third innings before seeing Williamsburg finally get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth and fifth inning with two runs apiece.

Corbin’s Hannah Hart turned in a 3-for-4 effort at the plate while driving in three runs and scoring three times. Kelley Farley, Whitney Gatliff, Amber Allen and Kaitley Jackson each finished the game with two hits apiece. Jackson and Katie Bernardo each drove in two runs apiece.

Hart turned in another solid effort on the mound for the Lady Redhounds, who are now 12-9 overall and 3-1 against 50th District competition. She allowed only three hits and no earned runs while striking out six batters.

Carissa Conlin led Williamsburg with two hits and a run scored in the loss.
