SOUTH LAUREL — The good news for the Corbin Lady Redhounds is they got past Middlesboro with ease Monday, cruising to the 10-0 win.
The bad news is that for their efforts, they’re rewarded with a spot in the 13th Region Championship game against defending champ, South Laurel.
Corbin took advantage of four goals from Morgan Boggs Monday, while Mallory Allen, Kaitlyn Waddle, Kara Grissell, Kaitlyn Stidham, August Fox and Maddy Thompson each added a goal in the win.
Corbin took the early lead when Waddle punched one in, followed by Grissell’s shot to make the score 2-0 in the first 15 minutes.
The Lady Redhounds struggled midway through the first half, forcing head coach Eric Steely to make a few substitutions in an attempt to get his team on the same page.
“I pulled my midfielders out halfway through the first half because I really didn’t like the way we were playing,” Steely said. “I felt like we were a little bit flat, so I got them out and kind of talked about what we wanted to do.
“It worked out well for us and we were able to shore things up and get the win,” he added.
The Lady Cardinals captured their eighth straight district championship last week in a 10-0 win over Corbin, improving to 22-0 against Corbin dating back to 2000.
