District showdowns await both Corbin & North Laurel

CORBIN — Both Corbin and North Laurel will put their respective unbeaten 5-0 records on the line Friday in Week Six action against unbeatens Wayne County and Pulaski County.

Both games the Redhounds and Jaguars will have to pull off the wins on the road to remain unbeaten, and yes, both teams will be underdogs going into their respective games against the Cardinals and Maroons.

So can both teams pull off the upset?

Good question.

Corbin will have to figure out a way to slow down Wayne County’s high-scoring passing attack of Tyler Guffey and company while North Laurel will have to contain Pulaski County quarterback Riley Hall and tailbacks Caleb Cox, Aaron Smith and Zach Whiles.

But don’t forget, both Corbin and North Laurel have weapons, too.

The Redhounds possess Mr. Everything on offense in Taylor Waddle. He can hurt opposing teams throwing, running and catching the ball and Corbin’s defense has been a strong point the entire season — scoring points off the Redhound “D” has been hard for any of its five opponents this season.

The Jaguars continue to dare teams to stop its potent ground game of Michael Nelson and Gabe Blair, and so far, teams haven’t been able to do it.

So what’s going to give Friday?

Can Wayne County hand Corbin its first loss? And will North Laurel continue to roll and upset a very good Pulaski County team? We will see.
