Local teams, individuals participate in state meets

LEXINGTON —The Williamsburg Yellow Jacket cross-country team turned in a 23rd place effort in the Class A State Meet Saturday while the Corbin Lady Redhounds finished 26th in the Class 2A State Meet and North Laurel placed 21st in the Class 3A State Meet. The Tri-County also had individual runners representing their respective schools participate in the state meets while turning in solid showings.

Class A Girls

The Tri-County didn’t have any teams compete in the Class A State Meet, but both Lynn Camp’s Heather Wilson and Williamsburg’s Sarah Perkins and Katie Stanley turned in impressive efforts.

Wilson turned in a 65th place finish with a time of 22:40.29 while Perkins finished in 108th place with a time of 24:10.60. Stanley turned in a 115th place effort in 24:29.47.

St. Henry won the state championship with 62 points while Green County (105 points), Bishop Brossart (126), Holy Cross (136) and Fairview (190) rounded out the top five.

Class A Boys

Williamsburg finished with 558 points, which was good enough for a 23rd place finish. St. Henry won the team championship with 84 points while Walton Verona (116), Bishop Brossart (146), Heath (164) and Villa Madonna (218) followed.

The Yellow Jackets’ top finisher was Garrett Faulkner, who placed 22 overall (17:39.92) . Addison Anderson (132nd place, 19:57.67), Jonathan Teague (151st, 20:32.11), Tyler White (192nd, 21:59.33), Eli Mattingly (194th, 22:12.96) and Ryan Haus (201st, 22:36.52) followed.

Class 2A Girls

Corbin turned in a 26th place effort with 642 points, as Highlands led the way with 65 points to capture the team state title. South Oldham (96), North Oldham (117), Bullitt East (135) and Mercy (249) rounded out the top five.

Danielle Hickman led the way for the Lady Redhounds with a time of 23:09.04 (108th) while Reese Helton was one spot off at 109th place with a time of 23:09.60. Kaitlynn Waddle (181st, 24:59.30), Hannah Logan (192nd, 25:26.55), Hope Peterson (208th, 26:30.29) and Amanda Woolums (209th, 26:31.22) followed.

Knox Central’s Sabrina Elliott participated in the event and had a solid showing with a 61st place finish in 22:01.12.

Class 2A Boys

The Tri-County didn’t have any teams compete in the Class 3A State meet, as North Oldham won the state title with 110 points. Bullitt East (212), Edmonson County (213), Covington Catholic (218) and South Oldham (223) rounded out the top five.

Class 3A Girls

The Tri-County didn’t have any teams compete in the Class 3A State meet, but South Laurel’s Alyssa Hamilton placed 173rd in a time of 23:30.50.

Assumption won the team state championship with 31 points while Bowling Green (78), Sacred Heart (101), Daviess County (113) and Oldham County (128) followed.

Class 3A Boys

The North Laurel Jaguar cross-country team turned in a 21st place effort with 548 points, while St. Xavier finished first with 20 points. Trinity placed second (87) points while Daviess County (145), Apollo (180) and North Hardin (222) rounded out the top five.

Garrison Burchell led the Jaguars with a 55th place finish in a time of 17:30.07 while Layne Gaynor (92nd, 18:03.98), Garrett Napier (132nd, 18:33.54), Scout Bundy (177th, 19:07.77), Stephen Causey (185th, 19:19.50), Ryan Abner (214th, 20:26.01), Trey Feltner (217th, 20:59.18) followed.

Whitley County’s Dalton Walden turned in a 125th place finish (18:29.60).
