WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Lady Jackets have continued their hard work and dedication throughout preseason practice sessions.
Head coach Andrea Ellis said she is pleased with the overall performance level and is looking forward to a fresh new start as last year's 5-26 record is now behind Ellis' squad.
The Lady Jackets will look to combine a group of returning starters and bench players from last season in hopes of steady improvement and more wins during the 2013-14 season.
“This year we have girls who have a positive outlook on things,” Ellis said. "They do everything we ask of them."
Ellis said she is excited about the progress of each returning player. Haley Harris will be one of three starters looked upon to provide court leadership for the Lady Jackets.
"Haley has worked on her shot this past summer," Ellis said of the returning starter.
Ellis also noted that Kacie Brown and Lexie Boggs are continuing to make strides; each improving in their overall game in preseason practices.
Both players will be counted upon to make significant contributions in addition to Harris.
The Lady Jackets will focus on team chemistry out of the starters in addition to players such as Kayla Griffith, Erin Maxey, Marah Crusenberry, Destanny Hatfield, Sydney Tye, Kaitlyn Baker and Jasmine Monhollen. The good numbers off the bench will provide the Lady Jackets with depth this season.
"We have good chemistry with all the players," Ellis said of her team.
Experience and depth will determine if the Lady Jackets can avoid another season similar to that of last year's. However, the current roster is showing tremendous signs of progress, which could make the Lady Jackets more competitive for the upcoming basketball season.
