Time to recharge before next week

Like It or Not

CORBIN — With the majority of the state’s sports writers and photographers converging on Lexington’s Rupp Arena this week for the 97th KHSAA Sweet Sixteen, I guess I’m one of the few that chose to stay home.

Sure, I’d love to see the top 16 teams in the state duke it out for the state title, but to be honest, I’m beginning to grow a little weary of basketball right now.

Without a doubt, by this time next week I’ll be fired up and ready to hit the road to Bowling Green as the Corbin Lady Redhounds get set to take on Shelby Valley in their opening round matchup next Wednesday night. With that said, everyone needs a little break here and there.

Speaking of breaks, I was thinking about the layoff the girls’ teams are faced with this year between the end of their respective region tournament and the start of the girls Sweet Sixteen. I was wondering if that gap would hurt or help the teams that make the trip.

In some cases I would imagine the trip could slow the momentum of a team on a hot streak, while on the other hand it can help a team that is nursing some injuries.

Either way, when next Wednesday night’s game rolls around, I expect to be in the right frame of mind to make the trip to Bowling Green’s E.A. Diddle Arena and watch the Lady Redhounds play in their first Sweet Sixteen game since 1982.

Considering the buzz around town, I expect a lot of Corbin fans to make that same trip as well.

Oops…

I want to take a second to apologize for a blunder in our publication regarding the final scoring statistics for the girls 13th Region Tournament. The only explanation I could figure out was that at some point, myself and Les Dixon must have both added the final points when tallying the scoring leaders following Monday’s win by the Lady Redhounds.

I know this is no excuse, but it was late and we were pressed to meet our deadline. Either way, the totals below are taken from the official scorers book during the tournament and are, to the best of my knowledge, true and accurate.

Sorry for the mistake.
