Knox Central's Cassi Shippy wins Class 2A's state track meet 200 Meter Dash

LOUISVILLE — The Knox Central Lady Panther track and field team turned in a fifth place finish garnering 30 points in Friday’s Class 2A State Meet, as senior Cassi Shippy stole the show by capturing first place honors in the 100 Meter Dash (12.58) and a second place finish in the Long Jump (17-06.50).

But that’s not all.

Shippy turned in a third place effort in the 200 Meter Dash (26.12) and won the National Guard Best of the Brightest Leadership award along with Franklin County’s Ryan Timmons. She also participated on Knox Central’s 4x100 Meter Relay team that finished in third place along with teammates Casey Mitchell, Jazmene Taylor and Haley Brown.

Knox Central’s Sabrina Elliott placed 18th in the 1600 Meter Run (5:51.83) and 16th in the 800 Meter Run (2:35.14).

Corbin’s 4x800 Meter Relay team (Danielle Hickman, Hailey Martin, Kaitlyn Waddle and Bridgette Smallwood) placed 14th with a time of 10:36.19. Lady Redhound Chelsea Gibbs competed in the Discus Throw and placed 22nd with a 66-10.

Louisville Central took home first place honors in the team rankings with 105 points while North Oldham (67.50), Western Hills (50), Boyle County (45.25) and Paducah Tilghman (30) and Knox Central (30) rounded out the top five.

On the boys’ side of things, Knox Central finished in 34th place with five points, as Devon Evans finished in fourth place in the 300 Meter Hurdles (40.81) while Corbin’s Taylor Waddle placed 16th in the 200 Meter Dash (23.57).

Lexington Catholic won the overall team rankings with 75 points, while Paducah Tilghman (48), Mason County (45), Highlands (39) and Louisville Central (38) rounded out the top five.
