NORTH LAUREL — North Laurel freshman Kailin Yantz continues to make a strong case for the 2013 Times-Tribune Fastpitch Player of the Year after going 3-for-4 with three runs scored during the Lady Jaguars’ 9-3 win over 12th Region foe Lincoln County on Tuesday.

Yantz drove in a run during the first inning and North Laurel never looked back, as the Lady Jaguars improved to 19-10-1 during the process and 6-1 during their last seven games.

“We are playing pretty good right now,” North Laurel coach Becky Osborne said. “We left a lot of runners on base, but we’re playing better. I thought we were able to score some runs early and it’s really nice to get a win.”

North Laurel scored three runs in the first inning and took a 4-0 edge after Yantz reached base with a double and eventually scored on a grounder by Vanessa Smith that was misplayed by the Lady Patriots.

Osborne’s squad added five more runs in the sixth inning, increasing its lead to 9-0, as Megan Baldwin’s two-run single highlighted the five-run rally.

“I thought we got some good hits tonight,” Osborne said. “We played good on defense and hit the ball well at times.”

Baldwin, who signed with Union College earlier in the day, picked up the win in the circle by tossing a complete game, allowing three runs and seven hits while striking out six batters.

North Laurel will finish out regular season play this week with four more games, before participating in next week’s 49th District Tournament.

“They are ready for postseason play,” Osborne said of her players. “I think we all are.”
