NORTH LAUREL — Mother Nature didn’t cooperate as many had hoped for this past weekend, but the North Laurel Lady Jaguars were able to get three games in before rain washed out the Jaguar Invitational Tournament.

North Laurel managed to grab the tournament’s top seed by tying with Green County, 3-3, while picking up a convincing 11-1 victory over Greenup County. The Lady Jaguars won the first game of the tournament Saturday by slipping past Greenup County again, 1-0 in eight innings.

North Laurel had a couple of chances to win with ease against the Lady Musketeers, but hit into two double plays with bases loaded.

“Friday night we seemed to come out of our slump in the second game,” North Laurel assistant coach Rogers Strong said. “But on Saturday, we went back to not being able to get the big hit. We left too many runners on and had two many wasted opportunities.

“It was nice to see Sidney Herrell get the game-winner (against Greenup County),” he added. “We knew it would be hard playing the same team we beat 11-1 on Friday.”
