THE WAY IT IS: Some local teams can make a run

TRI-COUNTY — Well folks, our Little League All-Star action is beginning to wind down, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see two of the Tri-County’s respective teams that will be participating in this weekend’s tournaments in action.

Yep, both North Laurel’s 11-12 year-old Fast Pitch All-Stars and Corbin’s 11-12 year-old Baseball All-Stars have been a pleasure to cover, and I’m sure they’re going to make some noise beginning this weekend.

Corbin 11-12 year-old Baseball All-Stars

I have to admit I have been really impressed with coach Dan Hash’s squad. They are well-coached and really know the fundamental side of things, and to make a run at a state championship, those traits are huge.

Corbin has all of the ingredients to win a state championship — great bats, solid pitching and great defensive play. Combine those three things and you’ve got the makings of something special.

Hash’s squad has also got a lot of heart, too. To be able to come through in clutch situations while facing six consecutive elimination games and winning each of those shows just how mentally tough this group of young men are.

In nine games, Corbin has hit 19 home runs, that’s right 19 home runs, while compiling an impressive .397 batting average.

I’ve really been impressed with the hitting power of Cameron Allen, Ethan Wine, Garner Chandler, Jacob Gardner, Zac Hash and Ben Phillips. Allen leads the way with five home runs so far during All-Star play while Wine, Chandler and Hash have three apiece. Gardner and Phillips each have two apiece.

Pitching wise — Corbin is just as strong. The staff of Phillips, Allen, Cade Cooney, Wine, Hash, Hardner, Brodie Skinner, Boston Hardesty, Abe Barnes and Chandler have almost been unhittable.

Can this team win a state title?

I say yes.

They are built to win a state title and they could very well do so.

It’s never too early to talk about what games will be the big ones for the Tri-County high school football fans to watch this upcoming season. I’ve tried to narrow my list down to 10 games, but honestly, it really wasn’t easy to do — but I did manage to do it.
Let’s just say things should be very entertaining, and interesting, for you the fan this season.

The word hero is used a little too loosely for my taste these days.
To be honest, it’s been used way too much for a long time and I’m just as guilty as the next guy.
