LYNN CAMP — The Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats are coming off their best season in program history, and things got even better Tuesday, as Richard Jones' squad won its season-opener over visiting, Burgin, 54-41.
Nine different players scored in the 13-point win for Lynn Camp (1-0), as Jessica May continues to show she's one of the top post players in the region by scoring a team-high 14 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.
Burgin had no answer for Mays, as she scored six points in the third quarter.
“Jessica May played really well with 14 points and 12 rebounds,” Lynn Camp assistant coach Mike Hensley said. “Ginger White played really well off the bench, too.
“We had a very balanced attack,” he added. “We struggled shooting the ball early, but made some shots when we needed to.”
The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 14-6 lead over Burgin in the first quarter, and managed only six points in the second quarter, but still held a comfortable lead over the Lady Bulldogs at halftime, leading, 20-9.
Burgin outscored Lynn Camp, 15-13, in the third quarter while cutting its deficit to single digits at 33-24.
But just when it looked like the Lady Wildcats were going to get back in the game,
Lynn Camp's Heather Wilson caught fire from the floor scoring eight of her 10 points during the game's final eight minutes. She also finished the game shooting a perfect six-of-six from the charity stripe.
The Lady Wildcats outscored Burgin, 21-17, in the fourth quarter while securing their first win of the season.
“We took care of the basketball,” Hensley said. “We were a little rusty tonight, but we was ready to get out there and get a game under our belts.”
The Lady Wildcats will be back in action Thursday on the road against Cumberland Gap, Tenn.
