Donnie Head’s Corbin Lady Redhounds are two wins away from capturing their first-ever tennis state championship, but to do so, they must get past Sacred Heart today in Final Four action at the University of Kentucky’s Boone Center at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Redhounds will enter today’s match-up with a 19-2 record with their lone losses coming to both Lexington Christian and Henry Clay by identical match play scores of 3-2.
“They are a good team,” Head said. “They’ve got two very good doubles teams and they are going to be tough to beat. But honestly I really wanted to stay away from Lone Oak as long as I could, and we did.
“We’re going to see what happens,” he added. “After looking over some things today, I really think we have a good chance of winning. I’m going to continue to get the girls’ confidence up and we’ll see what we can do. We want to do something special, which we already did when we won the sectional, but we want to continue to do something special by going up there and winning. We’re not going up there just to go up there. We want to win.”
Head will be sending Sydney Ledington in to play No. 1 singles while Catherine Crawford will be the No. 2 seed in singles play and Jaclyn Jewell will be the No. 3 seed. Julie Crawford and Emma Kate Carloftis will play as the No. 1 seed in doubles action while Makayla Beecham and Ellie Jane Carloftis will be the No. 2 seed in doubles.
“That’s what I’m going with,” Head said. “If they can come out and beat us with this line-up then, I’ll shake their hand and congratulate them.”
