ASHLAND — The Corbin Lady Redhound Tennis Team won the school’s first ever Sectional Title Sunday with a 3-0 win over Lawrence County, while the Redhounds fell to Rose Hill in the semifinal round, 3-2.
The Lady Redhounds cruised in the finals, but the semifinal round against Russell provided plenty of drama, with the final match deciding the outcome.
Jaclyn Jewell won her first set, but got down 4-1 before rallying to get the win that sent her team to the finals to face Lawrence County.
Curt Hart, who was standing in for an absent Donnie Head, said the girls played well and that he wasn’t surprised to see them play so well in the finals after a tough early match.
“The Russell match was much tougher, but I thought the girls were focused and played very well,” Hart said. “After that, I felt like they played very poised and calm in the finals.”
