WHITLEY COUNTY — North Laurel and Whitley County met up for the second time this week with the Colonels picking up a 4-1 win in boys’ action while the Lady Jaguars slipped by with a 3-2 victory.
“The girls closed the regular season with a close victory at Whitley,” Smith said. “We had our strength in doubles, and then were able to win one of the singles matches to get the team win.
“Tough night for the boys,” he added. “Two superbreakers went against us. Turn those two around and we walk away with a 3-2 win. I think Sammy (Maggard) and Justin (Maggard) proved they can compete with most anybody because (William) Tan and (Matthew) Douglas will be a high seed at region. That should give them confidence heading into regions. We'll be a tough out for anybody in our path.”
