Lady Hounds look to improve

CORBIN — With a team batting average of .330, Chris Hart knows his Corbin Lady Redhounds are going to hit the ball with regularity.

With junior starter Hannah Hart’s ERA of 1.10 in the circle, coach Hart also knows he is going to get a quality effort from his pitcher more times than not.

The one thing that has been a question this season for the Lady Redhounds is their ability to make plays on defense. With a team fielding percentage of .885 and 71 errors on the season, Chris Hart said most times than not, the battle of fielding the ball is more a mental than anything.

As the season winds down, Hart said he knows the time to make improvements is now if his Lady Redhounds expect to make any noise in postseason play.

“This is the time of year where you need to tighten up any loose ends and get better in areas that need improvement,” Hart said. “Hopefully we can fine tune a few things and improve overall in all areas, but especially defensively.

“We’ve played some very good games against some good opponents and the next step is to beat some of those good teams,” he added. “Defense has been tough for us at times and we’ve worked on it a lot."

As the season winds down, Hart said he hopes to keep those statistics at or close to where they are now. If he does, he said he knows his team will continue playing well and having fun.

“I think the girls have had fun and they just don’t want to quit,” Hart said. “I’ll give them credit for that attitude and even when they get down in a game, they don’t let up.

“We have a goal of a 20-win season and that’s still attainable for us as well as a district title,” he added.
