WILLIAMSBURG — Corbin coach Jennifer Parsons said her Lady Redhounds’ goal Monday was to strike early against Williamsburg and hopefully take away their will to win.

Mission accomplished.

Parsons’ squad connected on five three-pointers in the first quarter en route to a 27-9 lead at the end of the period, as Corbin defeated the Lady Yellow Jackets, 70-45.

After the game, Parsons said her team did exactly what she asked them to do, which is what a coach wants to see in the postseason.

“We knew that they have been playing well in the latter part of the season and we didn’t want them to establish any kind of momentum,” Parsons said. “The last time we played them they didn’t have all their players, so we knew they would have a few different looks to show us.

“I just felt like it was important to set the tempo at the pace we wanted to play at,” she added. “After Miranda (Wilson) hit that first three, I felt like things w∫ould fall in place even though we have struggled offensively over the past few weeks.”

On the other side of the floor, a dejected Andrea Ellis used very few words to describe her team’s effort.

“We played lazy in the first half,” Ellis said. “When you do that, it’s hard to come back from a 20-point deficit, especially against a team like Corbin.”

Miranda Wilson led all scorers with 16 points, but 12 of the 13 players that played for Corbin scored in the contest. The Lady Redhounds advanced to the 50th District Championship game Friday, where they’ll face the winner of today’s game between South Laurel and Whitley County.

Despite the pace slowing in the second period, Corbin used a 12-9 effort to extend its lead to 39-18 at halftime.

The Lady Redhounds continued to push the pace in the third quarter, doubling Williamsburg’s offensive output (16-8 in the quarter) to extend the lead to 55-26 with eight minutes to play in the game.

With her starters on the bench, Parsons’ squad was outscored 19-15 in the final period. The Lady Jackets’ Carissa Conlin scored 15 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, though it was too late to make a difference.

Kayla Wilson added 10 points for the Lady Redhounds, while Brooklyn Ashurst, and Holli Disney each scored eight.
