Lady Cards fall to Clay County on the road

CLAY COUNTY — After Monday’s 54-36 loss to Clay County, the South Laurel Lady Cardinals have lost for the third time in four games.

Taylor Arthur’s 19 points led the Lady Cardinals, but she was the only player to reach double figures for South Laurel.

Clay County’s Cheyenne Madden led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, while Morgan Chesnut added 14 in the win.

Despite Arthur scoring seven of the Lady Cardinals’ nine first-quarter points, Clay County grabbed a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers extended the lead to 25-18 at halftime after outscoring South Laurel 15-9 in the second quarter.

Clay County continued to control the pace in the second half, outscoring the visiting team 18-7, stretching the Lady Tigers’ lead to 43-25 with eight minutes to play in the game.

The two teams played each other even in the final period, scoring 11 points each as the Lady Tigers held on for the 54-36 win.

South Laurel will be back in action Friday in the regular season finale as they host Rockcastle County at 6 p.m.
