CLAY COUNTY — Jeff Davis’ South Laurel Cardinals are playing the top teams in the 13th Region close, but they just can’t get the win.

That was the case Tuesday, as Clay County managed to hold on and defeat South Laurel, 69-62.

The win improved the Tigers to 17-6 on the season while extending their win streak to six games while the Cardinals fall to 10-13 and now has lost two games in a row.

Davis’ squad hung tough throughout the contest, as Clay County led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and 25-24 at halftime.

The Tigers built themselves a 46-40 edge going into the fourth quarter before Tyler McDaniel scored 10 of his 12 points during the game's final eight minutes to wrap-up the win.
