WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets continue to struggle this season, falling to 1-16 after a 63-43 loss to Bell County Tuesday.

Tarrah Davis scored 17 for the Lady Jackets, but it wasn’t enough to save her team from their 12th straight loss.

Bell County’s Maci Morris paced the Lady Cats with 22 points as they improved to 15-3, good enough for second best in the 13th Region as Harlan County stands at 18-2.

Despite the loss, Williamsburg coach Andrea Ellis said she was pleased with the way her team played.

“We played a good game,” Ellis said. “I was very proud of my girls.

“Even though it was a loss, we were finally able to put a full game together,” she added. “They are a good team that is well coached and they do a good job with those kids.”

The Lady Cats held a slim 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter as Williamsburg’s Davis scored 11 of her 17 points in the game’s first eight minutes.

Bell County scored 16 points for the second straight quarter, extending its lead to 32-25 at halftime.

That’s when the Lady Jackets let things get out of hand.

Bell County used a 16-7 third-quarter effort to extend the margin to 48-32 with eight minutes to play in the contest. The Lady Cats closed things out with a 15-11 fourth quarter to seal the win.

Though the final margin was 20 points, Ellis said she didn’t feel like her team had suffered a 20-point loss afterward.

“I was proud of how hard we played and the fact we never gave up,” Ellis said. “I know the scoreboard says they beat us by 20, but I just don’t think it felt like a 20-point ball game.

“Our defense was good most of the time, we just had trouble scoring in the second half,” she added.

Williamsburg will be back in action Friday when it hosts Knox Central.
