CORBIN — There’s a first time for everything. If you don’t believe it, ask the Corbin Lady Redhounds.

Coming into Monday’s game against Clay County, the Lady Redhounds had not beaten the Lady Tigers under head coach Jennifer Parsons’ watch and were 0-15 since the 2001-02 season.

A shot that was almost too easy by Miranda Wilson, which came off an assist by Holli Disney, with 1.8 seconds to play in the game put Corbin on top for good as they held on to win, 57-56.

The win was the second in as many games against ranked opponents after they knocked off Assumption over the weekend. Corbin improved to 14-7 on the season and has now won eight of their last 10 games.

After the win, Parsons said the biggest factor in Monday’s win was her team’s attitude and refusal to give in under pressure.

“The never quit, never die attitude from these girls is obvious that they are not going to get down,” Parsons said. “I think that attitude is going to carry us a long way, however you don’t want to get down and have to dig yourself out of a hole and that’s stuff we have to work on.

“To fight back and win like we did and get past a name on a jersey is big,” she added. “Clay is a good team and they’re always the team you measure yourself by, so I felt like to get the win says a lot for us.”

Corbin trailed 8-7 after the first quarter and 26-18 at halftime.

The Lady Redhounds cut into the lead in the third quarter, but still trailed 39-34 as the fourth quarter got underway.

After seeing the deficit grow to 46-37, Corbin used a 11-2 run to tie the score at 48 apiece.

The two teams traded baskets until Clay County took a 56-55 lead on a pair of free throws by Morgan Chestnut with 25.1 seconds to play in the game.

A timeout by Corbin gave the Lady Redhounds time to think things over before Miranda Wilson scored with 1.8 to play.
