NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Jaguars opened their portion of the 2012 Legacy Nissan in style Thursday, cruising to an 82-64 win over Garrard County.

The win means the Jaguars will face off against 13th Region neighbor Whitley County in one of Friday night’s semifinal games.

The return of North Laurel big man Jake Allen proved to be a big plus for the Jaguars as he and Marcus Carson led the way in the scoring column with 16 points apiece.

After the game, North Laurel coach Brad Sizemore talked about the win and being able to move on in the tournament.

“It was good to get a win and advance in the tournament,” he said. “I thought we played a really good second half and looked really sharp on both ends of the floor.

“This was a great team effort and a good team win for us,” he added.

The Jaguars also got double-digit efforts from Kendrick Henson (11), Peyton Broughton (10) and Austin Thompson (10) in the win.

The Jaguars will play Whitley County today at 7 p.m. at North Laure High School.
