That’s the reaction Warrior Fighting Challenge matchmaker Jimbo Collins said he’s gotten since the organization announced a revival of the mixed martial arts cage fights promotion.
It’s been a while, but the promotion is back at Corbin’s Civic Center tonight and Collins said he‘s not only excited about event as a whole, but he said the main event is expected to be a special one for fight fans.
A pair of Warrior FC veterans will face off when London native Scott Hope battles Harlan resident Brandon Bell in the last of 12 scheduled fights on the card.
“Everybody involved is extremely excited about making our return, especially in the Corbin area,” Collins said. “When promoter Paula Webb and I first started talking about bringing Warrior FC back, the first thing we talked about was doing a fight here in Corbin.
“I’ve had the main event picked out for two years and these guys stuck by their commitment to fight each other,” he added. “This fight is special because it’s two of the guys that helped build Warrior FC in to what it was before we quit for a while, so we expect a really good contest and good crowd reaction.”
Speaking of that reaction, Collins said the response to the promotion’s resurgence hasn’t really been a surprise, but he used one word to describe it.
“Overwhelming is the only word that comes to mind,” Collins said. “Mixed martial arts fans are a rare breed and the people that have followed us through the years were right there when we let everybody know that we would be making a comeback.
“We’ve got a lot of fans in this area as well as people that will travel a good distance not only to see the fights, but to fight as well,” he added. “It’s really going to be exciting to be back at it and provide a high quality even for our fans, especially right here in Corbin.”
Saturday's card at the Corbin Civic Center is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
