NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel boys and girls tennis teams had mixed results when Middlesboro paid a visit.

The Jaguars cruised to an easy 7-2 win over the Yellow Jackets while the Lady Jaguars weren’t as fortunate, losing in match play, 8-1.

“Middlesboro is always one of the tougher teams in our region, and we had a good night against them,” North Laurel coach Bob Smith said of his team's win.“Sweeping them in singles was a pleasant surprise, and winning several tight matches in the process was great to see.

“We didn't have our full squad, and we struggled overall against a good Middlesboro team,” he said about the Lady Jaguars’ loss. “The big positive is that Pooja (Kanthawar) got an important win in singles against (Baylie) Brunsma. That improves her seeding potential if we decide to enter her in singles at the regional tournament.”
