Redhounds roll past McCreary Central, 85-47

WHITLEY CITY — The Corbin Redhounds continue their winning ways. Tony Pietrowski's squad entered Tuesday night's contest at McCreary Central with a 26-point average margin of victory in the previous three games. That statistic grew after Corbin's 85-47 pouncing of the Raiders on the road. Andrew Taylor and Kevin Goins led the Redhounds in scoring with 19 points each, but the defense created several Corbin scoring opportunities throughout the game.

The Redhound defense has shown signs of improvement in the latest string of victories. Assistant coach Brent West commented on Corbin's defensive efforts in recent games.

“I feel like the last three or four ball games, our effort defensively has really kickstarted us and we've started scoring the basketball easier,” West said. “When you do that, shots come better in your offense and we're getting production from more than just a couple of guys.”

Corbin jumped out to a 12 point lead after the first quarter of play as the Raiders were no contest for the more athletic Redhound squad. Corbin held a 54-28 lead by halftime. It was a lead that was never in jeopardy. A running clock ensued by the end of the third period when Corbin led 79-39. The Redhounds cruised to the 38-point win when all was said and done, but West offered his thoughts of production off the bench as the season comes to a close.

“We're getting production off the bench from Trevor Browning, Kenny Hopper's had a couple of big games as well as Conner Hopkins,” West said. “We've got to have those guys. We've got to have them in the post season coming off the bench and giving us points and giving us some good play like they have."

West sees a more consistent Corbin team on the court.

“We're getting consistency and getting more consistent play from quarter to quarter,” West said. “I feel like we've been playing our best basketball of the year in the last week to week and a half.”

Corbin will return to action on Thursday night at North Laurel.
