LOG MOUNTAIN — After narrowly escaping with their season-opener Monday with a 75-74 win over Garrard County, the Whitley County Colonels pulled off what some may view as a shocker Tuesday.
Jerry Overbey’s squad grabbed a 64-61 road win over Bell County Tuesday, giving the team a 2-0 start on the season.
Whitley County’s Casey Crisologo and James Sasko led the way with 14 points apiece, while Zack Rutherford added 10 points to give the Colonels three players in double figures.
After the win Overbey said he was pleased with the way his team stepped up Tuesday after it looked as though they got tired late in Monday’s win over Garrard County.
“I thought we may come in here a little dead-legged, but our kids did a good job tonight of staying with it,” Overbey said. “The 10 kids that we played all played hard and we had several kids score in double figures, which is always a good thing.
“Bell County came in as one of the top rated teams in the 13th Region by the coaches and I think we were somewhere around 14th, so this is a big win for our kids,” he added. “It’s good to get off to a good start, but we still have room to get better.”
