CORBIN — The Corbin Redhound tennis team continues to play well after picking up wins over both Montgomery County and Clay County.

The Redhounds handed the Indians an 8-1 loss while blanking Clay County, 5-0.

“We went with our strongest lineup today against Montgomery County,” Corbin coach Nickie Dixon said. “They are a very tough team and are favored to win their regional tournament this year. In singles, I couldn't have asked for much more from any of our players. Connor (Maguet) played great today.  His opponent will be the one seed from the 10th Region this year. Connor showed why he is one of our better players in our region. He served well and set up his points today. He was patient and waited to attack the net. He wore down his opponent and pulled away for the win in the last couple of games.

“I was very happy with William Reedy's performance today,” she added. “He also matched up with what would be the 3rd or 4th seed from the 10th Region. Early in the match his opponent had control of the net and was up 4-1, however William improved on his passing shots and forced his opponent to the baseline. After that William didn't lose a game. A come from behind win against a great player is always a great confident boost. The rest of the team put up great scores in singles action.”

Dixon was also pleased with the way her team played in doubles action. Corbin managed to take two of three from Montgomery County.

“In doubles, we suffered one loss,” she said. “However, we were competitive and played hard.”
