KNOX CENTRAL — Corbin entered the fifth inning deadlocked in a scoreless tie with Knox Central by the time the inning ended, the Lady Redhounds were well on their way to a 13th Region-best 11th win.
After a double by Lindsey Barton, Hannah Hart drove in the game’s first run with a double and scored after two errors by Knox Central, as Corbin cruised to an easy 8-0 win over the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Redhounds scored all eight of their runs during the inning and took advantage of six Knox Central miscues, as Hart continued to puzzle the Lady Panthers at the plate during the final two innings to wrap up the win.
“Our bats started off slow and I think that’s because we were coming off a different pitcher from the previous night,” Corbin coach Chris Hart said. “We were kept off-balance for a couple of innings and once we started to hit the ball where she put it, we began to open the game up a little.
“It’s huge (taking advantage of the errors),” he added. “We took advantage of them and we had great base running. Maybe this is a sign of a maturing team.”
Hart finished the game with 12 strikeouts, two hits and only one walk in the win.
“Hannah had a great pitching effort,” Hart said. “When your pitcher allows only two hits and strikes out 12 batters, you can’t ask for anything better than that besides a perfect game.”
Corbin finished the game with 10 hits and was led by Barton’s 4-for-5 effort at the plate. She also had an RBI and a run scored. Hart went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored while Katie Bernardo was 2-for-4.
The Lady Redhounds will now shift their focus to Thursday’s game against South Laurel. Both teams are undefeated in 50th District play with Corbin standing at 2-0 while the Lady Cardinals are 4-0.
“Thursday is a huge game,” Hart said. “We’re going to have to be ready. Like I said earlier, I believe South is playing the best ball they’ve all year and it’s going to take us playing a very, very good game to be able to compete with them and we’re going to go in there and give it our best and our hope is that as we play teams like that and we’ll get better and we’ll see how it goes.”
