Knox County All-Stars fall in eight innings to Hazard/Perry All-Stars

CORBIN —

By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

SOUTH LONDON — The Knox County All-Stars entered the District 4 Minor League Tournament unbeaten, but suffered their first loss of the All-Star season Tuesday.

Knox County jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as pitcher Bradon Hembree was able to keep Hazard/Perry at bay at the plate.

Knox County wasn’t able to push across any runs in the top of the second inning, while Hazard/Perry’s Andrew Ford scored thanks to a hit by Braxton Ambergy, cutting his team's deficit to one run at 2-1.

It looked as if Knox County was going to break the game open in the top of the third inning when Jordan Collins and Mills each scored, increasing their team’s lead to 4-1.

Hazard/Perry continued to struggle at the plate during the third and fourth innings, but finally began to make some noise in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Cole Skiles, Jarrett Napier and Ford each reached base and eventually scored after a hit by Aspen Combs, which tied the game at four apiece.

Knox County tried to rally in the top of the sixth inning, but went down in order at the plate.

Hazard/Perry had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the inning, but left the winning run stranded at second.

Knox County continued to struggle at the plate in the top of the seventh inning, going down in order again. Hazard/Perry had a chance to win in the bottom of the inning, but left runners stranded on first and second.

Knox County’s Braxton Smith reached base with a hit in the top of the eighth, but was left stranded, which allowed Hazard/Perry to pick up the win in the bottom of the inning after a run-scoring hit by Jarrett Napier.
