Lady Cardinals cruise

CORBIN — After a 3-0 win over Berea, Fawn Greer’s team has now won four straight, three of which came at the hands of 13th region opponents.

The Lady Cardinals cruised to the victory by scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-13 to improve to 13-4 on the season.

After the match, Greer said she was proud of the way her squad played tonight and she felt like her team is beginning to do the little things that help a team come together.

“The team played really well tonight,” Greer said. “They did a good job of reaching some goals they had set before the match.

“That’s something they’ve started doing in timeouts that has really helped them,” she added. “Those are the little things that get a team going and playing well together.”

Though the Lady Cardinals started the season off winning seven of the first eight matches, Greer said she felt like her team is starting to play its best volleyball of the season lately. With post-season play just around the corner, she said that’s a good thing.

“I think the girls are starting to trust each other and believe in one another,” Greer said. “When you do that, it helps things flow better on the floor and you can see what others can do.

“With volleyball, it’s not only about your physical ability,” she added. “A lot of it has to do with your mental ability in figuring out what the other team is going to do and our girls are starting to figure that out as we move along in the season, which is part of their improvement.”

The Lady Cardinals will be back in action today when they travel to Jackson County for a 6:30 p.m. match.
