Les Dixon's Daily Region Pick'em

CORBIN — With four games to pick today, I figured I’d just jump right to the picks. If you’re a high school basketball fan, this is the day you’ve been asking for. Should be a good one.

13th Region Tournament

Girls Semifinals

Corbin 67, Bell County 63

Yep, I changed this pick from what I had in the paper earlier this week.

Why?

Well, I really like how the Lady Redhounds are playing right now. Don’t get me wrong, Bell County is playing some pretty darn good basketball, too, but when it’s said and done, Corbin is the defending 13th Region champion. The Lady Bobcats will make sure Maci Morris gets her points, but I expect the duo of Miranda and Kayla Wilson, along with Sara Ashley and Natalie Gallagher will have big games as well.

13th Region Tournament

Girls Semifinals

Clay County 62, Harlan 47

Many expected a Barbourville/Whitley County match-up, but when all was said and done, it turned out to be a Lady Tigers/Lady Green Dragons match-up. I know I have Clay County winning this game by 15 points, but folks don’t be surprised to see this game just a tad bit closer. Harlan is a very good team, and don’t forget, they are the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic champions. But in the end, the Lady Tigers’ Ajaycia Cotton will take over.

13th Region Tournament

Boys Semifinals

Clay County 77, Williamsburg 61

A lot of people have shook their head at me at times this season when I said Clay County would win the 13th Region, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I’m looking for the Tigers to take control early, and advance to the title game. With that said, Williamsburg can win this game, but it depends on whether or not Andrew Griffith can do some damage in the paint or not. If the Lady Yellow Jackets can limit Clay County to very few second chance opportunities, they can win. They have to rebound the ball, and that means Andrew Griffith needs to play a big role in the post.

13th Region Tournament

Boys Semifinals

Corbin 64, Bell County 59

When these two teams hook up, big things happen. I don’t expect anything different today. The Redhounds turned in a solid effort against Jackson County, and I expect them to do the same against the Bobcats.
