LEXINGTON — Mother Nature played a big role during the opening day of the Boys and Girls State Tennis Tournaments. She caused just enough havoc to put a major dent into Thursday’s first and second round schedules.

Thunderstorms forced girls doubles action to be played indoors at the University of Kentucky’s Boone Tennis Center while girls singles action was moved to Eastern Kentucky University’s Greg Adams Indoor Courts. All boys’ action was moved to the Lexington Tennis Center.

The Tri-County was represented well in both the boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles action.

Boys

Singles

Corbin’s Connor Maguet won his opening round match by defeating George Rogers Clark, 6-3, 6-1 while Whitley County’s Danny Butcher cruised past Greenwood’s Billy Adams, 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles

North Laurel’s Spencer Bolton and Arjun Kanthawar dropped their first round match to Apollo’s Austin Richards and Jared Richards, 6-0,6-0, while Whitley County’s Matt Douglas and Christian Tan fell to Henderson County’s Will Angermeier and Quin Stallings, 3-6, 6-4, 8-10.
