Lady Jags pick up 5-2 win over Madison Central

NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Lady Jaguars put on their rally caps Thursday and handed Madison Central a 5-2 loss.

After seeing some fireworks go off with both a Madison Central and North Laurel coach getting thrown out after a Madison Central runner was called safe at first and then called out at second after advancing on the play, the Lady Jaguars fell behind 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning.

But that's when things got even more interesting. North Laurel responded with four runs and four hits to take control of the game while building a 5-2 edge.

Sydney Herrell reached base with a hit and eventually scored on an error while Kailin Yantz followed with a single and was driven in by Vanessa Smith, who connected with a hit. Blake Johnson delivered the big hit during the inning, a two-run single, to give the Lady Jaguars some breathing room.

North Laurel pitcher Megan Baldwin took over from there and silenced the Lady Indians' bats, as North Laurel improved to 5-0-1 during its last six games.

“We needed a game like this that was exciting,” North Laurel coach Becky Osborne said. “I think this is what we needed. We needed some fire and if this game didn't do it, then I don't know what will.

“I thought we played well and came together as a team,” she added. “That's what I've been preaching and it's time that we have. Megan pitched well and did a good job. Our hitting is coming, too. It's a whole lot better than it has been.”
