SOUTH LONDON — After losing to Hazard/Perry in the first round of the District 2 Minor League tournament, the Knox County All Stars bounced back to defeat Corbin 7-1 in the second round of the loser’s bracket on Friday.

Knox County’s Jordan Collins started on the mound and pitched a four-inning shutout to pick up the win. He allowed no hits and struck out six while on the mound.

Zack Messer pitched the last two innings for Knox, allowing one run.

“He’s a very good pitcher. We had a lot of trouble hitting the ball, and when we did hit, we hit it right to them,” Corbin coach Jody Botner said. “They made some plays and I think we ran out of gas.”

Knox used two big innings at the plate to get the win, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding three more in the fourth.

Isaac Mills, Braxton Smith and Alex Smith all singled and scored runs for Knox in the first inning. Collins also scored a run. After another run by Messer in the fourth, a triple by Alex Smith allowed Mills and Braxton Smith to also score.

“It was four to nothing after the first inning and that really got our kids fired up and took the wind out of Corbin,” Knox coach Jason Hembree said. “Our kids really played well tonight.”

With the win, Knox advances to the semifinals of the loser’s bracket, taking on Wayne County today at noon.
