Lady Panthers outlast Lynn Camp in district showdown

CORBIN — By Chris Parsons / Staff Writer

LYNN CAMP — The Knox Central Lady Panthers improved to 3-2 on the season with a 3-2 road win over district foe Lynn Camp Monday.

Barb Gregory’s squad jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-20 and 25-17, but nearly let things slip away in the end.

Lynn Camp battled back to take the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-9, forcing a decisive fifth set.

The final set was nip-and-tuck all the way with the biggest lead coming at the end when the Lady Panthers grabbed the 15-12 win.

After the match, Gregory admitted she felt like her team got comfortable and played lazy after jumping ahead 2-0 and it almost cost them the match.

“We almost lost this thing because we didn’t utilize our game as far as bump, set, spike,” Gregory said. “When we bump, set and spike, we’re fine and we’re a good team.

“I didn’t think we were as aggressive on the line in the third and fourth games and it really put us in a slump for a while,” she added. “Once we got behind we couldn’t dig out, but we were able to come back in the final set and get the win.”

As for the Lady Wildcats, head coach Cody Dixon wasn’t happy with the way his team played, but credited the squad for the comeback effort.

“We came out flat tonight and put ourselves in a bad situation,” Dixon said. “We battled to get back in the game, but we ran out of steam in the fifth set.”
