WHITLEY COUNTY — The Whitley County Lady Colonels picked up a 3-0 win over Jellico, Tenn. Monday, improving to 9-4 on the season.
David Halcomb and company made quick work of the Lady Devils, cruising to wins of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-23. The Lady Colonels managed to close out the match with their junior varsity team on the floor, giving some of Halcomb’s younger players some playing time in the win.
While he admitted he would take the win, Halcomb said he’s concerned with his team’s mindset going into today’s showdown with 13th Region rival, Corbin. Whitley County’s last four wins have come against Knox Central, Lynn Camp, Barbourville and Jellico, Tenn.
“One of my big concerns is the jump in the level of competition from what we’ve played lately,” Halcomb said. “Corbin plays at a faster pace than the teams we have played lately, so hopefully our kids will come in and be ready to play well.
“Corbin is a good team and we’ll have to be on our game to get the win,” he added.
