The Corbin Lady Redhound volleyball team has put together an impressive season, accumulating a 29-8 record en route to a second consecutive 13th Region title at the expense of many teams across the Tri-County and Southeast Kentucky.

Liberty Roberts’ squad has put together win streaks of seven and 13 matches, while going unbeaten on their home floor, extending a streak that started on Sept. 1, 2011 to 15 straight home wins.

Today, the Lady Redhounds travel to Valley High School in Louisville to face a tough opponent in the form of the Lone Oak Purple Flash.

“We definitely have our work cut out for us,” Roberts said. “They were ranked in the final poll as the No. 10 team in the state and they're just a very challenging team.

“But I told our girls that the biggest thing to focus on is that they don't make mistakes because you can't afford to against a team like this,” she added. “If we can mistake-proof our game, and that's what we've been working on this week along with some alternate plays, we'll at least give ourselves a chance.”

As impressive as Corbin’s 2012 season has been, their first round opponent in the state tournament has done its job to match the Lady Redhounds. The Purple Flash have tallied an impressive 35-4 record this season en route to their third consecutive 1st Region championship.

Not only has Lone Oak dominated the post-season, breezing through the district (2nd District) and region (Region 1) tournaments having not dropped a set, but the only Kentucky team to beat the Purple Flash this season is 11th Region Champion Henry Clay High School (23-16) and that loss came way back on Aug. 11.
