JACKSON COUNTY —
Sometimes things aren’t exactly as they seem and such is the case with Saturday’s 13th Region Volleyball Tournament.
Nearly 24 hours after the pairings for the tournament were originally announced, officials at Jackson County High School held a redraw, which changed the makeup of the tournament in a big way.
The new bracket pits South Laurel against Bell County, Jackson County against Knox Central, Harlan County against Clay County and Whitley County against Corbin.
Originally the tournament was to play out with first round games as follows – Harlan County vs. Knox Central, Jackson County vs. Corbin, South Laurel vs. Clay County and Whitley County taking on Bell County.
Whitley County head coach David Halcomb said he was notified Friday that it had been reported to the KHSAA that the draw had been conducted incorrectly, which led to the redraw.
“They weren’t far off from what they were supposed to do and nobody really caught it I suppose,” Halcomb said. “I found out at 11 o’clock Friday morning that they had to redraw and we were playing Corbin.”
Opening round games will get underway Saturday at 4 p.m. at Jackson County High School.
