JACKSON COUNTY —
The pairings for the 2013 13th Region Volleyball Tournament were finalized Thursday at the host site, Jackson County High School.
While defending 13th Region Champion Corbin (26-8) has to be one of the favorites to advance to next week’s state tournament, the Whitley County Lady Colonels bring the best record into the tournament with a school record 29 wins on the season.
Jackson County (49th), South Laurel (50th), Whitley County (51st) and Harlan County ( 52nd) come in as the district champions in the tournament, while Corbin, Knox Central, Clay County and Bell County come in as runners up in their respective districts.
The opening round will get underway Saturday when Harlan County (19-8) battles Knox Central (13-10) at 4 p.m.
The second match of the evening will see the host team, Jackson County, face Corbin at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Generals lost to Corbin (3-0) earlier in the season.
Game three Saturday will see 50th District Champion South Laurel and Clay County go at it, while Whitley County and Bell County will close the day in the final match of the opening round at 8:30 p.m.
