CORBIN — The Corbin Redhounds knocked off Middlesboro Monday in the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament, securing a spot in the finals as they try to defend their region title from a year ago.
Tulio Canineu led the way with three goals in the win, while Lucas Canineu, Dillon Brown, Jesse Hyde and Jon Carper each scored a goal.
While the win looked to come relatively easy, Corbin coach Armando Cima said Middlesboro did a god job of taking his team out of its game in the early going, but credited the Redhounds for overcoming in the end.
“Every team poses a different problem and Middlesboro was no different,” Cima said. “We didn’t do a good job of responding to the problem that Middlesboro posed in the early going.
“We finally were able to do some things and came away with the win,” he added.
The Redhounds advance to face Oneida Baptist, which knocked off North Laurel, 2-1, in the opening match of the evening.
Cima said he expected Wednesday’s championship game to be a tough match for his squad.
“Oneida Baptist always seems to be better at the end of the season and this year is no different,” Cima said.
