CORBIN — By Chris Parsons / Staff Writer

The Corbin Redhounds and Whitley County Colonels each picked up wins Monday as both took to the road to start the week.

Corbin took advantage of four goals by Tulio Canineu as it earned a 5-0 shutout win over Southwestern, while Whitley County earned a 6-1 win over Wayne County.

• Corbin 5, Southwestern 0

Corbin head coach Armando Cima said despite what the scoreboard showed, his team had to battle to get the win over Southwestern.

“I know it looks like we got an easy win, but we really had to play well,” Cima said. “I thought our kids did a good job and I felt like they were technically sound almost the entire game.

“Our kids never got frustrated at all and I think that’s big for us as a team,” he added. “It was a good win for our kids and I thought we played better than we have been.”

• Whitley Co. 6, Wayne County 1

Max Murray and Austin Cole tallied two goals each in the Colonels’ win, while Hunter Keltner and Cody Swafford added a goal each in the 6-1 victory.

Whitley County coach Jarrod Earnest said he was happy with the way his team executed Monday and said he feels like the Colonels are making progress toward improvement.

“This is our second straight win, so I think our kids are gaining some confidence,” Earnest said. “The guys come in and work hard every practice and it’s starting to show just how hard they work.
