SOUTH LAUREL — The defending 13th Region Champions flexed their soccer muscle Monday when the South Laurel Lady Cardinals cruised to a 10-0 mercy-rule win over visiting Somerset.
Todd White’s squad wasted little time showing they were ready to make another run toward the state tournament as Karli Parker tallied six goals in the victory.
After the win White said he was happy to see his team get the season started on a high note, but admitted he wasn’t surprised because he expects big things out of this team.
“We’ve had a really good summer and we’ve made a lot of progress as far as improving goes,” White said. “We played some tough teams in our scrimmages, so I knew we were capable of playing really good soccer.
“We try not to play typical eastern Kentucky soccer because it’s a lot different from the style of the teams around Lexington and northern Kentucky,” he added. “We tried to play a good quality of soccer today and it paid off in the form of a big win.”
In addition to Parker’s six goals, the Lady Cardinals got goals from Kristen White, Sierra Forbes, Haley House and Holly Smith.
Despite Parker’s huge day, White said it was good to see the scoring passed around throughout the team.
“We took Karli out and tried to slow things down, but our girls really like to push things,” White said. “Even with our younger girls we were able to close things out.”
