CORBIN — If you’ve kept up with the Corbin Lady Redhounds soccer program over the course of the past four years, the names Amerah and Whitney are sure to have come up an unmentionable number of times.

Since the pair walked onto the soccer pitch to start their freshmen seasons as Lady Redhounds in 2009, Amerah Dixon and Whitney Baker have made what Corbin head coach Eric Steely called an “immeasurable” impact on the program.

The duo signed letters of intent to play soccer at the University of the Cumberlands Tuesday.

In 2008, the Lady Redhounds finished the season with a record of 4-9-2, with just one win coming against 13th Region competition. When Dixon and Baker came onto the scene in 2009, the impact was not only felt, it was evident on the scoreboard and in the win column as Corbin’s record improved to 10-4-3.

The pair combined for 15 goals (nine for Dixon, seven for Baker) in their first season, but that was just the start of what they would accomplish in the scoring column before all was said and done. For her career, Dixon tallied 108 goals and 40 assists, finishing this past season as the state’s No. 4 scorer with 47 goals. Baker made good on 24 scoring attempts this season, pushing her career total to 58 to go a long with 29 assists.

“It’s more exciting for me because I’m going to have Whitney there by my side,” Dixon said. “We’ve played together since we were really little, so I think I’ll have more confidence in my game with a friend there with me.”

“I’m glad that I get to enjoy this experience with somebody that I’ve played soccer with my whole life,” Baker said. “With us rooming together we’ll get to share our first college experiences, and I’m super excited.”
