WHITLEY COUNTY — Knox Central and Whitley County split Tuesday’s boy/girl doubleheader Tuesday as the Panthers came away with a 57-51 win over the Colonels, while the Lady Colonels cruised to a 49-31 win over the Lady Panthers.
• Knox Central 57, Whitley County 51
The Knox Central Panthers snapped a three-game skid Tuesday with a 57-51 win over Whitley County on the road.
Matt Barger made an impact in his return, leading the way for the Panthers with 17 points. Jeffrey Adams added 13 and Tobie Merida chipped in 10.
The win improves the Panthers to 13-9 on the season.
Whitley County’s Michael Powers led all scorers in the game with 21 points, while Boston Bryant added 17.
• Lady Colonels 49, Knox Central 31
The Whitley County Lady Colonels knocked off Knox Central at home Tuesday, 49-31.
The win is the second in a row for the Lady Colonels and gives them some much-needed momentum heading into Friday’s 50th District showdown with Corbin.
Whitley County had struggled of late and had not won consecutive games since Dec. 21, when they beat Calloway County in the Heritage Bank Hardwood Classic.
Whitley County improved to 14-5 on the season, while Knox Central falls to 11-12.

It’s never too early to talk about what games will be the big ones for the Tri-County high school football fans to watch this upcoming season. I’ve tried to narrow my list down to 10 games, but honestly, it really wasn’t easy to do — but I did manage to do it.
