After defeating Heritage, Tenn. in the opening round of the Williamsburg Holiday Tournament, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets could not pull off the sweep of the Tennessee teams, falling to the Upperman Bees 64-45 in the quarterfinals.
The Bees relied on their size advantage and superior guard play to defeat the Jackets. Big man Joe Jones scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win, while guard Tyler McWilliams added 18 points.
"I think we were tired after that first game, but I think Upperman is a great team and had a lot to do with us looking that way," said Williamsburg coach Patrick Robinson. "They have a good team. They're not really missing anything. They have the inside presence. They have quickness and ball handlers. I think this made them 14-2 on the year now."
Upperman got off to a quick start in third quarter as Jones scored the first eight points, extending the Bees' lead to 37-20 just a couple minutes into the period. Upperman outscored the Jackets 19-9 in the third, putting the game out of the Jackets' reach.
Williamsburg tried to rally in the fourth quarter but could get no closer than 13 points.
