FORT WALTON BEACH, FLA. — The Corbin Lady Redhounds put together another late-inning comeback to capture their second straight win in the Fort Walton Beach Classic by defeating Trinity (Whitesville), 6-4.

The Lady Redhounds (5-2) fell behind 3-0 in the first inning before rallying to pick up an impressive two-run victory despite committing four errors.

“This was a good game for us,” Corbin coach Chris Hart said. “This is the best we’ve played offensively and defensively.

“We played a very good team today,” he added. “When we fell behind, we’re not giving up and that’s what I like to see. We’ve already won two games down here and that’s the most we’ve ever won, so we’re off to a very good start.”

Trinity jumped on the Lady Redhounds early by delivering first hits in the first inning, including a two-run double to build a 3-0 edge.

The Lady Redhounds answered in the third inning, as Hannah Hart’s run-scoring single ignited the rally. Callie Schoolcraft followed a few batters later with a run-scoring single of her own while Whitney Gatliff’s run-scoring double gave her team a slim 4-3 edge.

Trinity tied the game at four apiece in the top of the fourth inning, but Hart’s squad responded with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-4 lead. Corbin added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning to pick up the two-run win.

The Lady Redhounds finished the game with eight hits and was led by Hart, Gatliff and Schoolcraft with each player finishing with two hits apiece. Hart also led the way with two RBIs while Schoolcraft, Gatliff and Sydney Reynolds each drove in a run apiece.

“I thought we hit well all the way through the lineup tonight,” Hart said. “I was really pleased with our hitting.”

Hart picked up the win on the mound, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out five batters.

“Hannah pitched well,” Hart said. “She pitched one of her better games this season.”

Corbin will be back in action again today at 3 p.m. against Breckinridge County.
