RICHMOND — After trading punches for three innings, the Whitley County Colonels grabbed the lead over Model in the fourth inning and held on to earn the 8-7 win on the road.
Casey Crisologo and Tilmon Jackson each had multi-hit games in the win, each finishing 2-for-3 in the contest. Jackson scored twice in the game while Crisologo had one run.
Model took an early 1-0 lead, but the Colonels battled back to tie things up in the top of the second. Model struck again in the bottom of the second inning, but Whitley County answered in fine fashion.
After loading the bases to open the third inning, the Colonels’ scored five runs to tie the score at six apiece.
Jackson, Luke Woods, Jordan Crusenberry, Casey Crisologo and Alex Rose all came around to score after an error, a passed ball, a double by Rose and an RBI single by Crisologo in the inning.
The Colonels followed the five-run third inning with a two-run fourth to grab the 8-6 lead. A bases-loaded walk to Rose brought Jackson in to score and then a sacrifice by Keaton Logan brought James Sasko in from third to make the score 8-6.
Model managed to trim the gap to 8-7 in the bottom of the fourth, but couldn’t get any closer as the Colonels held on for the win.
Steven Watson allowed three runs on five hits and struck out four batters through four innings for Whitley County. Rose allowed four runs on three hits in just one inning of work.
Rose was 1-for-3 at the plate, but knocked in three runs in the game and scored one.
The Colonels will be back in action Monday when they travel to Jackson County for a 5:30 p.m. game.
