Lady Jaguars win, South Laurel falls, Corbin, KY

The North Laurel Lady Jaguars continued their winning ways Monday by upending Williamsburg at The Jungle, 55-39, while South Laurel dropped a 59-56 heartbreaker to Clay County.

The Lady Jaguars received a 23-point effort from Kayla Bruner and overcame a 27-22 halftime deficit to knock off Williamsburg, 55-39.

North Laurel outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 15-1 in the third quarter to take a 37-28 lead and never looked back.

The Lady Jaguars outscored Williamsburg 33-12 during the game’s final 16 minutes, as Hannah Lawson added eight points while Madison Shephard and Makayla Sexton each scored seven points apiece.

Clay County 59, South Laurel 56

Konnie Snyder’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals came oh, so close of picking up their biggest win of the season, but fell in the end to visiting Clay County Monday, 59-56.

The Lady Cardinals trailed throughout the game before rallying in the second half, thanks to some key shooting, and a tenacious defensive effort.

South Laurel cut its deficit to one point with :12 remaining in the game before seeing Clay County’s Kelli Roberts knock down two free throws to give her team a three-point lead.

The Lady Cardinals raced down court, and looked to tie the game up, but Bailey Miller’s last-second three-point shot fell just short, allowing Clay County to pull off the win.

The Lady Tigers led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, and 31-24 at halftime before seeing South Laurel cut its deficit to, 45-39, at the end of the third quarter.

Ajaycia Cotton led the Lady Tigers with a 20-point scoring effort. Preslie Baker led the Lady Cardinals with 16 and hit six-of-six shot attempts from the free-throw line while Katie Reynolds added 14 points and eighth grader Taylor Cromer scored 12.
