Corbin coach Chris Hart called his Lady Redhound softball program’s trip to Fort Walton Beach a success after posting a 3-2 record this past week.

The Lady Redhounds (6-4) set a goal of putting together a winning record during their stay in the Sunshine State and they did just that.

“We won three games down there for the first time since I’ve been coaching the program,” Hart said. “We did lose our last two games, but I was really pleased with the way things went. I thought we got better as a team.”

Corbin started things off in the Florida Softball Beach Classic with wins over Henry County, Trinity (Whitesville) and Breckinridge County before falling to Tates Creek and Owensboro.

“I thought we did a good job,” Hart said. “I thought our defense got better through the week, but our offense dropped off a bit.

“Now we need to put both of those together and we’ll be fine,” he added. “I’m happy with where we are at right now. Our goal coming down here was to have a winning record and try to win as many games possible. We got three wins and I believe we will build off that.”

Hart said one of the positives out of the trip was seeing his team learn from the mistakes they made during the five-game trip.

“We learned from our losses,” he said. “That will make us better. The trip itself was a total success. There were a lot of positives that came out of this. I thought as a team we bonded together really good.

“We also learned to find pitches to and not to swing at,” Hart added. “Our pitch selection has gotten better. We also did a better job with our coverages on defense. We have a lot of room to grow and we have a chance to be a very formidable team by the end of the season — it’s up to the girls.”
